About Tropea

We are a neighbourhood restaurant that serves modern Italian food in a relaxed and softly lit space. Our menu is made up of dishes best shared, that aim to showcase their star ingredient.

Featured in The Michelin Guide 2023 and regional winner of The Good Food Guide ‘best local restaurant’ 2023, our food is of the highest quality but is fuss free and led by Italy’s wonderful produce.

We serve an ever-changing variety of Italian food: antipasti, fresh pastas, seafood and regional specialities, all presented in a contemporary way. We aim to find the best quality ingredients we can that are seasonally available. Either from the markets of Milan or from our local suppliers.

Our food is supported by a mostly Italian drinks list including wines from regions all over Italy. We also serve cocktails and refreshing soft drinks as well as Italian liqueurs, spirits, digestivo and speciality coffees.

Meet The Owner

Tro — Pey — Ah. A small and very beautiful town on the Calabrian coast of Italy. A place that’s special to us and the inspiration for Tropea, Harborne. Behind Tropea are Ben and Kasia supported by a dedicated and passionate team. Ben and Kasia met training as chefs at University College Birmingham in 2010, followed by working and travelling around the world, developing their passion for food and wine. They worked in some incredibly inspiring venues, before coming back to Birmingham in 2016. They were very fortunate that the 2020 lockdown gave them the space to think, and the time to realise a collective dream – to open a restaurant of their own – Tropea.
